I managed to do a solid 3-day juicing 'fast'. It was honestly incredibly empowering and a HUGE motivator. I really don't believe I have ever managed to follow any sort of fast or liquid diet for more than... like 12 hours (even then, probably not by choice). Each day, I drank anywhere from 40-60 ounces of veggie/fruit juice each day and TONS of water. Towards the end of the 3rd day, I began questioning myself, but I still managed. :)
Today, day 6 of juicing, I am still doing (I think) incredibly well. I feel very motivated, my diet has vastly improved and, in less than a week, I have noticed:
*My skin looks AMAZING. :) I have always had issues with breakouts and a lovely mixture of dryness, oil, and patches of unappealing color. A lot of (recent) scarring has cleared up, no breakouts, and my husband swears there's this different overall even tone and more color to my face.
*A nagging head/chest cold that has been dragging on for weeks is finally gone! (Maybe just a coincidence, but still, what a relief.)
*My sleep has greatly improved. I feel like I'm getting a much more restful night's sleep and I think I'm getting to sleep quicker.
*I have more energy and, honestly, I think I have a better overall outlook. Maybe that is just psychological from a sense of accomplishment, but whatever it is, I'm going to run with it for as long as possible. :)
*A small weight loss. I have lost about 3 lbs so far this week. Not huge, but I will take it. (It's so hard to tell an accurate number, I really do fluctuate a LOT, but it is consistently dropping. Slowly, but surely.)
*Sugar cravings have pretty much stopped. Carbs have always been my weakness. (If given the chance, I could easily live off of bread alone.) Perhaps a huge increase in fruit helped with that.
*Probably the most important and significant change is my appetite. My overall palette has changed. I really don't crave junk food. Fruit and veggies are sounding better and better every day. That is one long-term change I am excited about. I have never been able to eat veggies, even fruits are a struggle. But the juicing has really helped with that.
For the last 3 days, I have been making a morning blend (oranges, carrots (lots of carrots), grapefruit, lemon) and a lunch blend (greens, either broccoli or leafy greens, grapes, ginger, pears, and apples). And then in the evening I have been having a MUCH healthier meal than normal - usually an organic wrap (made from seeds, oils, and whole grain) with some leafy greens, white meat and almonds (yum!!). Perhaps some chips and salsa, nuts, or tomato soup as a snack.
I'm still very excited to see what will happen after 30 solid days of juicing. :)
