Well, I have now been one week wheat/sugar free…the longest I have ever lasted!! Yesterday was a real challenge, one where I would have caved in the past. We were out shopping for most of the day and between snacks that I took with me and some lovely turkey chili at Price Chopper, it was really quite tolerable. I am now noticing just how much junk food and prepared snacks/pastries etc. there are lurking in every grocery and department store. (I am starting to sound like a reformed smoker!)
Another non-scale victory is that some of the swelling has disappeared in my injured foot…last night was the first night in ages that I didn’t have to take meds for the nerve pain and that was after being on my feet much of the day. This would be reason enough to continue with my dietary adjustment!
Weight-wise, I only have lost about 1 pound and according to “the book” (Lose the wheat, lose the belly), folks will lose 5-7 pounds in the first week. I could be a little discouraged (ok, a lot discouraged!), but then someone at the gym today told me they thought I had lost weight. I keep reminding myself that this change is not all about the weight and even if I was “at goal”, this may be a good choice for me. I still am determined to keep at this for the 30 days, then will reassess.
Well, that is enough for tonight and I hope everyone has a great weekend!
