Help!!

Friday, April 05, 2013

I am so sore! I THOUGHT I was being very good about stretching before and after a workout. I have made sure to stretch, warm up, do the workout, cool down, and then stretch. For over a week everything has been great. Today my muscles are so sore! What am I missing? I would appreciate any suggestions. It is the thighs that are sore. So, if anyone has any favorite stretching routines or videos you can suggest, please do. Thank you!

Water (inside and out), a day of rest ( an easy walk or swim is fine), massage, magnesium, and the best help I know is Arnica cream or gel or rosemary oil. Equine herbal creams for muscles are actually the best I have used when I am very sore.

    Hi, Blue.
I'm sorry to hear that you are so sore.
The trainers at the gym where I am a member told me to save the stretches for after the workout when the muscles are warm so that there is less chance of injury. They said to just walk for about 5 minutes to warm up, then do whatever workout I want to do, and finally do the stretches. Finish off with plenty of water.

I hope this helps and that you are back at the top of your game very soon.

    Party on! emoticon

I also would say that drinking extra water should help. You might need a rest day too, although a walk is good to keep things moving. I used to do hard strength training up until 5 months ago, and the soreness was always worse the second day afterwards. At times, the soreness was terrible, so I would take ibuprofen. Tylenol is good too, if that works better for you. My trainer would recommend alternating ice with heat if the soreness was unbearable, but I never tried it.
Good luck - it is a good type of soreness though - it means you worked hard and are building muscle.

I like using epsom bath salts. They feel good on sore muscles and re-energize.

Perhaps you just gave it 110% and you're feeling it more? I know that a glass of chocolate milk is good for muscle recovery. That is something I learned from beachbody.

Soak in a hot bath and just accept that being sore is part of getting fit!

Are you taking in enough potassium? I am not sure if I am remembering right, but I think not enough potassium causes cramps. That may related to soreness too....

I know that drinking water can help. Also I heard to eat pineapple after a workout to ease the soreness. I'm sure you could find better answers on Google as well :)

Are you pushing yourself too hard? Of course, only you can answer that! Hopefully the soreness won't last for long! emoticon

Try hydrating more. I know you are drinking tons of water already - but they say having well hydrated muscles really helps with soreness and cramping. Just a thought.....
