Starting Over

Friday, April 05, 2013

It's been since late August I was actually active on here, a lot has happened since then. In my personal life, my husband succumbed to leukemia about 6 weeks ago, so I lost him and my 2 step kids at the same time. It's been difficult, but I am getting through it. I decided to go back to school, so I am looking into signing up for fall classes. I also decided to get back into exercising and eating well. I fully believe that my husband's poor lifestyle of smoking, not exercising, drinking a lot of soda, and eating high amounts of unhealthy processed foods, COULD have factored into his getting cancer so young. It may not have, but I feel like maybe just being all around healthier, and setting a good example for my kids, will be good for all of us. I just wish he was still here so we could work on it together. When he was diagnosed he quit smoking and stopped drinking pop, and he made a real effort to be more healthy while he was going through treatment, his cancer was just so aggressive he didn't stand a chance.

Since I've been inactive and eating poorly the last several months, I expected to be worse off, but I've only gained a few pounds in that time. I'm up about 2 lbs since my last weigh in, which I can live with. Just need to work on that muscle tone.

MUGGIN15, I am so sorry about your loss. We have lost several good friends in the past few years, to cancer and complications of diabetes -- it just is never easy, and all of those people could have made better choices that may (or, who knows, may not have) extended their lives. At this point the important thing is for you to take care of yourself and find some way to move on... knowing you have the support of the Spark People community.

Best wishes,
Sandy
