My Future As A MMA Fighter

emoticon You couldn't resist finding out about me doing MMA (mixed martial arts), could you?

Last night was our martial arts night and we did stations where we'd work on different aspects of our skills. There were 2 stations working on different kicks and then there were 2 punching (for lack of a better word) stations. At 1 punching station we were just supposed to work on our form to make sure we were doing it correctly, the other was with the lead sensei (instructor). With the sensei, he gave a series of punches to throw and then we did them into the pads he was holding.

I felt so hardcore doing these punches wearing these MMA gloves and then going at the punching bag. I musta been hitting harder than I realized, 'cause when I took off the gloves, my knuckles were really red and part was almost bleeding. Maybe I was working out some stress. emoticon The sensei said I did a really good job. emoticon

I'm the only adult student in the class, so I guess I should feel weird, but since it's mostly me and my kids, it's actually a lot of fun. I do have delusions that one day I would do a tournament and win my age group/belt level, but we'll wait for that for a while. We've only been going to Bushido (the style of MA we're learning) for a month. Last night I did order our gi's (uniforms), so we're planning to stick with this for a while. So, maybe in MMA they'll add a women's senior citizen division that I'll be ready for by then! emoticon

I am glad that you found an activity that you really enjoy. Remind-I am sure there are some of those kids in that class that look up to you. Be the great role model you hope that they will become.

One of my sons trains in stick fighting with a Dog Brother. I've never understood the exhilaration he experiences, but I see it every time he talks about it. Knowing that look is wonderful, because I can "see" it on your face too as I read this!
