Yesterday was a big day for me. It was Day 731 of my exercise streak. Factoring in a leap year, that makes TWO YEARS of daily exercise.
Iíll pause to let that sink in.
Two years. I didnít even know that was possible, that I could do something like that. I especially didnít know it when I weighed over 200 pounds. Back then, I could barely see past Day 5. But guess what? I kept getting up, getting out, getting on with it--10, 20, 30 or more minutes at a time. Lots of days, I didnít want to, but I did it anyway. Some days, Iíd go full throttle; some days it was a stroll around the block, or casual hula hooping in the backyard. But I intentionally moved. Every Day. For Two Years.
And Iím so glad I did. Yes, I still have quite a bit of weight to lose. But Iíve gained so much awesome stuff along the way, the numbers on the scale donít hold me hostage anymore. Confidence. Energy. I feel better when Iím moving. I love any excuse to get outside and play. This daily habit has more than paid off. Itís absolutely been worth it.
To celebrate the day, I decided to earn my 20,000 daily steps badge with my FitBit. FitBit lets you earn badges for big milestones, like steps taken, floors climbed, stuff like that. The highest Iíd ever reached for a day, was 15,000. So, I cleared my calendar and planned for a very active day. First, I walked to town and back, which got me a little over halfway. Then some friends came over to help me get to the finish line. We hippity hopped, played disc golf, and walked a fitness trail. And I made it!
By the time I got home and ran around some more, I realized I was awfully close to 25,000. I figured I might as well keep going, so...
I ended the day with 25, 718 steps, before my head hit the pillow.
What a great day! I canít thank you enough for all the encouragement and support youíve shown me over the past two years. Sharing this journey has been the most awesome part of the whole thing, and definitely the most fun. If youíre streaking, let people know, so they can cheer you on. If youíre not streaking, what in the world are you waiting for? Youíre missing out on all the fun!
Iíve marked every day of exercise with a post-it note. LOVE that stack of notes!
SPARK ON!!!! (We're going back to the park.)
