Words of Encouragement

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Wow, you've lost weight.

Excuse me, are you speaking to ME? Yes she was. Great way to end my morning meeting today. When someone notices, it helps put/keep me on track.

I had a weirdly timed day ahead. Meeting broke up at 8:30 and I had a doctor's appointment three hours later. I live in the woods. It takes close to an hour to get into town. I am not going home. I had actually had this little plan dancing in my head to go to the great bagel shop next to the doctor's office and hang out reading, drinking coffee and eating bagels and cream cheese.

But then I heard those words and the sedentary, bagel eating breakfast went out the door. What did I do? I drove to a nearby island, changed my shoes for my sneakers and went for a cold walk around the island. Tossing those in the car this morning was, if I do say so myself, brilliant. Yes, it was cold but when I found sunny spots out of the wind it was lovely. I saw at least a bizzlion eiders swimming in the ocean. I know this because I counted twice. I met lots of people walking their dogs. People were out and people were smiling.

I made it to the doctor with all kinds of time to spare feeling really good about myself. No bagel. No coffee. Thanks, friend, for those great little words of encouragement.

What a great way to use the encouragement you received to further your progress; brilliant idea of yours to head to an island and walk! and pure inspiration having your shoes on hand to be able to do just that emoticon

Good for you for going for a walk instead of sitting around eating bagels. Sounds like you had fun too. emoticon emoticon emoticon
