It's about time!

Thursday, April 04, 2013

This week has been very busy. Last Friday was Bob's 71st Birthday. Then Sunday was Easter. Although it was a quiet day, we still had a lot going on. I wasn't able to each much of the beautiful dinner Bob made us, but what I did have it was very good. The menu was baked ham with pineapple, mashed potato, and brussel sprouts. I had more of the sprouts than anything. Only two very small bites of ham, one forkful of the potatoes, 3 sprouts, and one pineapple ring. That was it. I couldn't handle anymore. My lips were even burning! Tuesday I finally felt well enough to get my hair cut. I have needed that for a long while. Yesterday I had both a manicure and a pedicure. They were having a special if you got both, so I did! Even with a tip. it was less than the total usually is. I love my finger nails. I'll have to have Bob take a picture so I can show you. The last manicure I had was before Christmas. The last pedicure was just about a year ago. So it was about time I had that done, too. When I do my own, I can't see them well enough to get the nails cut properly! Tomorrow I see my radiation oncologist for a check up. I was suppose to go last week, but Bob wasn't feeling very good. When I started to add my next chemo appointment to my schedule, I noticed it was for September 2nd. That happens to be Labor Day. I called today to tell them I thought we had a problem. She was really glad I called as they had others scheduled for that day, too. No one had ever marked it off as a holiday!! She was gong to have to make some calls to reschedule patients.

I'm still gaining some weight. I really appreciate all the advise everyone gave to me about this. The doctor should be happy as he wanted me to gain anyway. And I still am way within a healthy BMI. Since nothing seems to be helping, I thought I would revisit my earlier menus and exercise programs and try to follow them for awhile. Which I also think is about time!! I'm really not going by the number on the scale or even how my clothes fit. I am going by how I feel - which is still very tired and sluggish. The muscle I bruised in my fall still hasn't gone completely down from the initial swelling either. It's smaller than it was but obvious to me. Sometimes when things don't seem to change, we have to do what we have to do and think to ourselves, "Well it's about time! Why did I wait so long t try this option?"

Everyone have a lovely day. I feel so happy to have each of you in my life. I love you all. It doesn't get much better.

Peace, Love, Hope

Glad you are doing better and had a nice Easter. The meal sounds good that Bob made. Glad you were able to try some of it. My mom had her first pedicure a week or so ago. She can't reach down or see to cut her toenails either now. She really enjoyed it. Said it was worth every cent she paid.

Good to know you're doing better, even if you still have some time ahead of you before you're back to feeling more like you were before the fall. You have your wits about you, for sure! It's shocking they didn't realize that was a holiday, so it's wonderful that you caught it this far in advance to correct them. I hope you can once again find your happy balance between a weight and activity level that works for you. In the meantime, so glad you got such a good price for a mani-pedi & got that haircut. Nothing like feeling a little extra beautiful to help a woman smile.

I'm glad you were able to treat yourself to the haircut, mani and pedi; you deserve some pampering with all you have been through!

If you ask your oncologist, I'm sure he could refer to a dietician that has experience with cancer patients and that would give you some more ideas of healthy foods that you can tolerate that would help you gain some weight.

I am so glad you are feeling a little bit better and gaining weight. You will need to to be safe through future treatments and problems. I think it is a GREAT idea to go by how you feel and forget the scale. Write a list of ANY foods you have any interest in and just concentrate on those for now. The rest will come later. Give my love also to Bob, and I hope you both have a wonderful weekend. Love, Chelsea emoticon

Wishing you good health and happiness! Glad you are feeling better after your fall Ev! You are looking great- I wouldn't worry too much about the weight gain, especially since the Dr.'s want you too. As long as you are feeling good, that is what matters...especially all you have been through.
Sparkpeople is a special place isn't it...I just wrote a blog about how I feel. Much like you do! emoticon
