So I have to give a little back story before I launch into my actual story.
About six years ago my car, a 1990 Ford Crown Victoria, that my uncle gave me, started having more problems than I could afford to fix and the tags were about to expire. In desperation I decided to buy a bike, so I could at least still get to work while I saved up some money to fix the car. However, as it turned out I enjoyed riding my bike much more then I liked driving; so much so that I just never got around to fixing the car. I finally canceled the insurance and just left the car setting in it’s spot. I kept thinking that sooner or later I’d get around to fixing it or selling it. And I kept meaning to get around to it. But the car became more of a storage unit, where I’d stuff everything I didn’t have room for in my apartment.
Because I’d hurt my hip and my knee earlier this week I had been skipping the gym all week. But I was feeling much better yesterday and I figured I could do the elliptical or the weights and still baby my knee a little. But I finally talked myself into giving it one more day, because I’m a lazy slacker like that. So I got home and was informed by my super that I needed to move my car, because they would be re-surfacing the roof the following morning and they need that area to set up the equipment.
Have you got any idea what it’s like to try and push a 3,700lbs, four door, Ford Crown Vic? Let alone a 3,700lbs, four door, Ford Crown Vic, with flat tires that haven’t turned in 6 years, UP HILL?!!!! I had my super trying to help and my petite, tiny roommate; and we just had to push it about six feet. But still I have never put so much effort into pushing something in my life.
When we finally got it moved I turned to my super and said, “Your brother in law mentioned he wanted to buy it, I’ll take $200 if he’ll haul it away.”
Needless to say, if I’d gone to the gym for an hour, I still wouldn’t have gotten the same rigorous workout I got in that one twenty minute attempt to push a car six feet.
