I have to confess to being sooooooo bad last night! They say confession is good for the soul so read on!
There was a surprise 65th party for a former co-worker, good buddy of mine last night at the local neighbourhood pub and of course DH and I had to go. Just to set the stage I should state that I have been in a zone lately and had lost a couple pounds finally, this the result of buckling down with tracking the calories and making better choices. Plus I had made sure to exercise daily.
We were so good and took a taxi as we would have a drink and didn't want to drive.
It was so nice to see all the gang I used to work with, catch up on all the news with everyone and celebrate Dick's 65th.
Then came the inevitable 'pub food' appies like deep fried shrimp, mushrooms, wings and unidentifiable things with the same brown-coated appearance. I held out for a good while grabbing a couple carrot and celery sticks as the trays went on by. Question: why are there only like 8 pieces of veggie sticks on a big platter of deep-fried appies. I ate like 6 of them!
Anyway the first drink I ordered was a tonic with lime juice.
That kept me going for awhile.
Then DH ordered a hamburger cut in half (deep fried appies not being his idea of dinner). So then I ordered a glass of wine to go with my half. I must say here in my defence I only ate like 6 fries. I know I had considered earlier in the evening ordering a green salad. Why the heck I didn't do that I don't know. Hmmmm!
So to make a long story short, we ended up staying til the end as the celebrant's wife offered us a ride home. I had another glass of wine and a small piece of birthday cake. Again, in my defence, it was a homemade cake, really delicious.!
I got home and watched American Idol and had a few jujubes! Now I just remembered yesterday afternoon I treated myself to a Lindt white chocolate Easter egg.
What can I say? I blew it big-time yesterday. I did have a great time though. It's just the total horror of adding up all the calories of the blowout that makes me grimace. I did go to water aerobics in the morning so I would have burned a few calories of all the excesses off.
So I sigh a big heartfelt 'Oh well'. Won't be doing that again for a long while. Back on track today. One blip on the radar screen is NOT going to derail me. I'm jumping right back on the Spark bandwagon today. "Yes I am", as Mary Murphy would declare!!
