Little Changes

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Every day, rather cloudy, sunny or cold, my friend goes out twice a day and walks our parking lots at the office. She's not gone a terribly long time, but she gets a walk in. She gets out of the office, takes a mental vacation, and gets some steps in. I've been watching her do this for a very long while. She's faithful to her routine.

This week, I started getting up and walking the parking lots too. Walking them has been liberating! Sometimes, the day has been just about to spin out of control. But taking those 10 minutes to walk has kept the world on it's axis. It's been wonderful to walk back in and have my head clear and ready to tackle the work at hand. My pedometer has enjoyed the nice hit it's taken too!

I talked with Sherry and thanked her for the inspiration, telling her I'd taken a page from her book and appreciated her being such a faithful role model. Friends really are grand! It was so nice to acknowledge her for her contribution to my fitness!

I think I'm on to something with the addition of my work day walking as well as my afternoon walking plan! My future self is going to emoticon me!

You are so awesome to tell her. She was probably flushed with surprise and pleasure at such an acknowledgement. Way to go, Cathy! good job on the walking, too!

Hmmm, you've really made me consider whether or not I'm faithfully acknowledging those who inspire me. I think I could do a much better job. Thank you for prodding my awareness - sometimes I find myself so wound up in logging, and responding, and tweaking, and adding new bits here that I'm neglecting awareness of those who stand in front of me. Thank you.

This reminds me of one time when I watched how a thin friend was eating. Instead of sticking a whole Dorito in her mouth (or several, as some people do) she sat there and broke off little pieces and ate one at a time. it took her about 10 minutes to eat one Dorito.

Sometimes, we just need to open our eyes, and really look around us, to see what we should be doing.

You are so right. I've started parking at the back of any parking lot when I shop or go to the gym. Walmart has some big lots but the Big Lots lot is relatively small. emoticon
