Day 505: The Morning Quickie

Thursday, April 04, 2013

I don't want to jinx us here or anything, but spring may've begun... well, springing. At last.

Son-of-Joe-the-Greenfinch* has returned to the bedroom window; when I got up this morning it was so daylight I didn't need to turn on any lights; and the AM temperature at daybreak was (just) above freezing. I'll take what I can get.

*Some of you may recall my misadventures with a greenfinch who persisted in tapping and flying at our bedroom window each morning - which would be fine, except at this latitude, the sun rises at 6:30. That's not too bad, although my alarm is set for 6:45. But this time of year the hours of daylight shift rapidly, and in just a few weeks the sun will rise at 5:30 AM. Now, there have been plenty of times in my life that I rose at 6, or 5, or (for two memorable years) even 4 AM. Not no more: I am officially retired. The original Joe kept up the morning ritual for nearly two months. Last year, he - or his offspring - kept at it until nearly mid-June. Sunrise in mid-June is around 4:40. It doesn't bear contemplation.

Verb day: Thursdays are grocery days, and I have about half the house dusted 'n' done, so between today and tomorrow I'll have the other half in shape. Then - we wait.

If I won a (megahuge) lottery, I think I would give the place away, and get rid of the aggravation as well. Since I don't play any lotteries, it's not likely to happen, though, lol...

Have a good'un, Sparklers - carpe diem!

I do play the lottery... and have great plans if I ever win...

And letīs write that book, I would call it "sushi after 60" not because it would have that much to do with sushi, but because I like the sounds of that title emoticon

I have Rotten Robin who does something similar, but persists all day. Fortunately, it is a guest bedroom; but the dear leaves marks on the window and leaves quite a bit of poop. It must be a spring mating thing....

Ah, the changing seasons. How they mark the passage of our lives. I love the story of your bird. Makes me feel rather nostalgic. Grew up listening to the rooster crow each morning.

Love the new profile pic.

By the way what does "Verb day" translate to for us yanks.?

Oh, no...not Joe! What did you do last year to shoo him away? Your windows must be too clean - he's seeing his reflection again. Good reason not to wash them...haha emoticon
