Meeting new people

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Ok so meeting people online is all new to me..and frankly it feels a little weird. I never used online to meet new people or make new friends. I think this was the main reason I was unable to stay strong in spark the first few times. I am branching out and am part of an accountability group that really encourages you to find a partner to keep you accountable to your goals. It still feels weird emailing people I don't really know or never met in person, but I am working through it so that I may succeed! If by chance you are my accountability partner reading this, please have patience with me as I move past this issue.

Anyone else have this issue?

You'll be fine, and it does get easier. You'll be comfortable in no time at all. I felt the same way when I very first joined. Then when I realized that people were here for the same purpose...it did become much easier.

    Hi there. =)

Back about... oh, it must be15 years ago now... I had met a bunch of like-minded people on-line, and at first, it was strange. But you'll get used to it, and it'll seem like old hat!

It's just a different form of communication, that's all. Especially in the accountability group you speak of - I'm a member too! - everyone is really nice and supportive. Before you know it, you'll be e-mailing with the best of them. emoticon

The people in this group are so supportive and helpful! I don't think you will regret having a partner to whom you are accountable! Hang in there! emoticon

You know what? I had the exact same experience the other 2 times I tried Spark People. For me it was strange to email strangers...it really was. For me, this whole journey is very personal and I just don't really talk about it unless it's with someone I really trust and how can I do that with someone I only talk to via email. But this time around, I took a chance, and yes, it was still strange at first and a little uncomfortable because there is still the "getting to know you" period but I can tell you that having other people who I can contact during the day who understand the journey I am on has made a world of difference to me. I don't know them personally, but it doesn't keep them from understanding what I am experiencing.
I think that as time goes on, it will get easier for you. But I completely and totally understand where you are coming from. emoticon
