Wild flower class is a bit of a bust at this time

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

So far there are no wild flowers yet in Maine. We have had 2 classes and next week will be postponed. We are all looking for signs of Spring then our course will resume again and go on longer in to the summer.

We went to a greenhouse and looked at flowers many are cultivars of the wild ones so we used our magnifiers and our books to come up with the variety of flower we have in the pot.

As we walked through the greenhouses they were weeding the pots. We noticed these tiny weeds and the employees let us pick some they were very tiny bitter Cress Flowers and so we all managed to come up with the same flower.

I am liking this course it makes me have to think. it is supposed to keep your mind sharp if you have to think so perhaps I will have some catching up to do.

Tomorrow I have just been invited to a Movie and another long walk. It does make it easier when people keep asking you to walk. I just drop everything and go.

Tonight I have some knee pain, I am getting a little concerned about his now. I fell on ice on the rail trail but I was sure nothing was damaged now I will try to have it evaluated it has been several weeks now and some parts are numb. I will call for an appointment. If it is still painful I will settle for the movies.
Thanks my friends I am off to bed. Pat in Maine.

My son and I are both having a lot of arthritis trouble right now so hopefully you don't have that. We seem to have more problems when the weather changes a lot back and forth.

Greenhouses are few and far between here now. We have less every year. I miss them. They have much nicer plants than at Lowes, Wal-mart, and K-mart which are what we have here.

    Hi Pat,

Sorry to hear about your knee and hope it's not anything serious. I fell in our basement when I went down to get another drill bit and tripped over the irregular cement by the sump pump. Suffered and worked on it for a week until I couldn't walk anymore and went to the hospital and got it wrapped and some crutches. Then couldn't drive my catering truck for a week. A doctor wanted to do surgery and I refused as we had no insurance. I went back to driving my route on crutches for two weeks and it finally healed. Luckily it was my left knee so I could drive. I have never had any trouble with it since.

We have a lot of flowers and plants coming up here in the planting boxes. The Master Gardeners come once a week to help those who need help with their garden boxes. There are a lot of beautiful plants coming up in the flower beds around our building. The patients at the drug and alcohol treatment hospital across the street from us come over with a guard every Thursday to help (volunteer) in our gardens. We give them cookies and coffee and they are such nice young men trying to get their lives back in order.

I bought a fitbit zip and am loving it. Am working up to getting my 10,000 steps per day. I live halfway up a steep hill so have been walking around the long blocks a couple times a day. Went to Walmart with my neighbor yesterday and we parked at the edge of the lot and then did a lot of walking around inside. It was a beautiful day. This morning the rain has returned.

Take care of yourself Pat. Have a good day.

Brenda

I am so happy that you are enjoying your classes. It was good that you went to a greenhouse to look at different flowers that are coming up. It is too bad that we are not having too many flowers coming up yet. Good luck and have loads of fun.

I am sorry to hear about your knee pain. It probably would be good to have it looked at since it has been a while since you fell. It could be something that got pulled or twisted. I will pray that it isn't anything serious. Best wishes.

Love Dot

I took a botany class in college where we had to pick a plant on campus and journal its growth each week. I notice a lot more things happening in Spring now because of that.
Take care of that knee. Enjoy your day.

Pat, I hope that your knee is OK. You are wise to
go to the movies instead. Your wildflower class sounds
so interesting. I hope the weather warms up for you so
that you can find real wildflowers in the wild.
Hope you had a good sleep. emoticon

Frustrating about your class but it gives you something to look forward to! Hopefully, the warm weather is coming soon!! I did the same thing to my knee when I fell in January. It's been almost 3 months and it is just now getting better; with less pain. I had burning pain and some numbness. No fracture. So I've just waited it out. Let me know if you get a diagnosis--then I'll have an idea what was wrong with mine! LOL

The class sounds lovely even if Mother Nature has not yet gotten the memo that Spring has sprung! Do please have your knee checked so that you can be limber and well when those lovely spring flowers DO pop!

So sorry to hear about your knee. It is a good idea for sure to get it evaluated!

Not much sign of Spring here in WI yet either! But at least the snow is almost gone.

HUGS and have a good time today.

Hope your class doesn't need to be postponed for too long. Surely we will get warmer weather soon and all the little flowers will push through the soil.

Be sure to take care of that knee. It would probably be best to get it checked out since it has been sore for that length of time.

Have a great day.

Your wildflower class sounds interesting. We plan to camp along the Columbia River the end of the month and the desert wildflowers should be blooming then. We haven't had as much rain this spring as usual so not sure how much that will affect them.

I hope your knee is better soon. I feel for you. I have injured both knees in the past couple of years & had surgery on my right knee in Oct.

Oh boy, the knees can be a bit of a bother that's for sure. I have one that acts up occasionally and then I can't walk for awhile. Hope yours is ok. Have to keep enjoying those walks!

I miss the spring time in Holland with all the beautiful flowers. We live in a village in the flower growers' area and there are fields and fields of tulips and many other kinds of flowers each year in the fields behind our house. We love to walk the dirt road alongside and of course end up at a windmill. Beautiful! Doesn't get more dutch than that. I found out a few months ago that Monet had actually done a few paintings of the very area we always walk in. So amazing to think he stood where I have and painted such beautiful scenery. emoticon
