This lovely quote is from the documentary, Vegucated (which I HIGHLY recommend, it's on netflix) and it is completely and totally true. I have cruised a lot in the past working on ships and they are the absolute hardest place to maintain healthy eating, especially vegan. Hence my April challenge...
I am going on 2 back-to-back cruises in April, the first for 7 days and the second for 10. These are working cruises for me, I will be interpreting for Deaf passengers, but I generally have plenty of down time to relax. In the past I have put on as much as 10lbs of weight/bloat while cruising, and this time I have set a goal for myself to LOSE WEIGHT on the cruises. I would like to lose 5lbs in April, but I don't care if it's just 1lb, it will take such willpower to avoid all those temptations that even the smallest victory will be enough to satisfy me. Here is a game plan for the month of April:
-Maintain a vegan/ plant based diet while on the cruises. This means actually making my veganism known to my dinner server and discussing meal options, eating mainly vegetables and fruits and limiting pasta/breads.
-No soda for the entire length of the cruises. This is going to be a tough one also because the soda is free for interpreters. WATER WATER WATER!! I'll be surrounded by it and I need to be drinking it as well (not the salt water though ;-) )
-Exercise 4-5 days a week on the ship. They normally have amazing gyms with every kind of equipment I could ask for so there is no excuse not to use it!
-Read "Eat to Live" in order to keep my head in the game and stay motivated while surrounded by temptations.
-Enjoy myself!! Relax by the pool, sleep a little later, and just have fun.
I weighed myself today and am 229lbs. I am not going to weight myself again before the cruise and not until the end of April when I get back. My goal is to be 224lbs at the end of April. I am really looking forward to this challenge. I have decided that if I can maintain my vegan lifestyle during April on the cruises I will reward myself with a juicer. Kind of a big reward for just 5lbs loss but it will be a real test for my willpower!
