Grammy's preschool

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

Since we are done with our intro to the alphabet for the year (Lucy and Sophia are only 3 and 2) and our St. Patrick's Day and Easter fun, I chose an ocean theme for us to center our activities around for the next few weeks.
We live near the beach and will take a field trip there if it ever warms up enough.
Today we counted and sorted Lucy's sea shell collection about ten different ways.
Then I read a few non-fiction books about the ocean (very quick read),
followed by 'The Rainbow Fish', one of my favorite children's books, which teaches the importance of sharing (these two have a lot to learn about that!).
Then we made our very own Rainbow Fish.
Here's Lucy's:

They turned out so cute- lots of prep for me but they were totally involved in the project- most especially the glue and the glitter!
A fun but tiring day- only 3500 steps on my Fitbit- no way I'm going to the gym and it's even too cold and windy for a walk for me.
I'll make up for it tomorrow.

That's so awesome! I'm trying to do some preschool like activities with my 4 yo son. He'll turn 5 in time to start kindergarten in the fall, but I don't think he's ready. So mommy preschool it is!

Love the Rainbow fish! I teach preschool and every child just loves glitter. I don't what it is about it, but they love it. That and mixing shaving cream and glue and then blobbing it on and after it dries they can stick there fingers in it. We made green eggs and ham and the white of the eggs was that shaving cream mixture. The kids loved it. I so enjoy my little ones and glad you enjoy yours!!! What a wonderful Grandma.

I find the kids love doing sand art as well where they put glue all over the page and then using colored sand make a picture. I usually have goldfish crackers and small shells for them to add. They love it!

Liz that's a wonderful idea and I bet the wee ones enjoyed every minute with Gran!
You're creating memories for them that they'll look back on and appreciate in later years.......and probably echo them with their kids/grand kids!

Have a great day! emoticon

I always loved doing beach themes when I taught! So many things to do and, of course, the kids love it. Rainbow Fish--good book!

What a nice Gramma you are! That sort of stuff takes a lot of energy. I understand why you are tired.
