So, I went to meet with a personal trainer yesterday. He was adorable, short man with lots of muscle, but still a little beer belly. He recommended doing circuit training for me.

1-3 sets ;15-20 reps at a time; 30-90secs of rest between sets.

Box Squats
Kettleball press
Assisted Pull up
Assisted Dip
Leg curl
Squat machine
Ball Slams
Jack Knives (but holding at that point where the back wants to come off the ground to work on the lower abs)

He also recommended stretching my hip flexors and hamstrings to give my squats better depth.

His sessions are $30/half hour or $45/full hour. Not sure if I want to make that investment yet, but it's rattling around in my mind.

    I know I found doing sessions with a trainer are invaluable - as long as he is attentive to detail. My 2nd trainer really worked with me making sure I was doing things with the right form. He also adjusted a few things like squats and lunges until they weren't hurting my knees. (I now do assisted squats and reverse bench lunges and my knees don't hurt!) My last private session was last night, but I am still doing group ones with him.
