So I get to work today and enter the kitchen to put my food into the fridge. I bring my food to work everyday. I have enough food to keep me full because I do not want to munch on the junk food that is readily available in this office. Sitting on the counter was a container that someone had brought from home with homemade treats - brownies & chocolate chip cookies. I passed.
While I was heating the food up I thought 1 chocolate chip cookie is not going to wreck havoc on my calories. I try to eat at the low end of the calories that I have budgeted. I took one chocolate chip cookie to have as dessert after my lunch. I ate my chicken & veggies and did eat the chocolate chip cookie.
I realized it is not the chocolate chip cookie that is dangerous, it is the taste of the cookie that is!!! That cookie was so good that immediately my mind registered the thought that I really needed to go get another cookie. I literally had to fight with myself to resist that urge to go get that cookie.
I did prevail in the fight and only had the one, but WOW!!!!
A big part of getting healthy is to resist those urges that hit us. I learned today it is smart to be out of reach from goodies. I really do not know if I would have won the battle if I could have just reached out and snagged another cookie or two.
Now that I have really committed to the process this year, it is amazing of what you become aware of that before I would have given a second thought.
