Being in a long distance relationship is hard. Really, really hard. We miss each other constantly and we never have enough time together. It can't go on forever, so one of us has to move. Since Luke has a young son (and I would NEVER ask him to move away from him) we decided that I would move. This is a huge decision for me, to move an 8 hour drive/hour flight away from all my family and friends, but it is the right thing to do; We want to be together.
So I made the decision that I would resign from my job effective the end of term 2 (July) and try to find a job in Wellington. If all else failed could always relieve. We started looking at rental properties, discussing who would bring which furniture. So, I was set, I had my references sorted and my CV typed up and I was ready to tell my boss that I was leaving. THEN...
I was offered an AMAZING opportunity at work. Incredible. I can't say much about it for security reasons, but I can say that I am implementing and managing a new program, and other schools may want the same program implemented in the future. It comes with a pay bonus, and will look outstanding on my CV. Did I mention I'm only in my second year of teaching? This is unheard of, for a second year teacher to be offered an opportunity like this. I would be crazy to turn it down. So I haven't.
Long story short, I am staying in Auckland for the rest of the year but I'll be moving as soon as I can at the end of the year, just before Christmas. It was a very hard decision, choosing between the man I love and the career I love. We decided together that opportunities like this don't come around much, and I have invested too much time and money into my career to turn down offers like this. An extra 5 months is manageable. We are committed to our relationship, and we will make this work.
Although it is hard being away from this cute face
