week 3 post op

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Well today is my 3rd week out. I have lost 20 lbs post op. Total of 39 lbs. My incisions are completely healed. I'm finally feeling up to doing laundry and light house cleaning.

I am still having issues getting in enough protein. I am going to order a Nectar protein sample pack of flavors and hopefully I will like one of them.

I have started eating soft foods. I have been able to keep down ground beef, turkey sausage, tuna, boiled egg so far. Also green beans, cheeses, mashed potatoes. I haven't really had any problems with vomiting yet. I am being very careful to chew my food thoroughly. I am a bit frustrated at the tiny amount of food I can eat at a time. Only about 1/4 cup MAX. The reason I'm frustrated with that is not because I want to eat more, but because I need protein and have no room for it. I did order some higher protein puddings and stuff from bariatric choice. Hopefully that will help some. I did have part of an atkins protein bar but the sugar alcohols in it did not agree with my digestive system. I don't think I need to go into detail there....

On a happy note... I am now down a size in pants and also shirts! I tried on a couple that I had in my closet and they fit! I was thrilled. The pants I was wearing before surgery are about to fall off when I put them on. I won't be wearing them anymore.

I have been walking everyday still. I haven't missed a day of exercise yet! I am very proud of myself for that. My goal is just 10 minutes a day but when I get out for my walk I always end up going longer than that.

Well, I guess that's all for this week. emoticon

GREAT JOB! I know that each doctor has a different plan for nutrition, but my doctor FORBIDS all protein bars. She says that they are basically junk food w protein and she found that people who didn't use them kept weight off more consistently. She also requires protein drinks that contain less than 4g sugar per serving. Regardless of how much protein I eat in food form, I still have to get in 60-80g per day via protein drinks. Plus the protein drinks count towards my 64oz of water that I need to get daily. I like the Pure Protein Brand chocolate and cookies and cream protein shakes. They come in 21g, 23g and 35g protein. I usually drink two 35 g protein cans a day. They're 11 oz each, so that's 22 oz of water that I don't have to drink! Hope you figure it out!

I liked a lot of the Nectar powders, but they have a funny aftertaste. It isn't anything that is overly horrible, but you may need to brush your teeth after. I really liked the Lemonade and the Tropical something or other (it was blue)

There are still days when I don't get enough protein and I am almost a year out. The important thing is you get it on most days. Some days are going to be more than others.

I am glad you are not having a lot of food issues. That is a great thing!

You are doing so awesome! Keep up the great work!

Well done on not missing a day of exercise! That's awesome!

Sounds like you should be singing "pants on the ground!" That's wonderful!
