Juice cleanse - day 4

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Unbelievable. How did I go this long without posting? It's been nearly a year.

My husband got a bit of a health scare a few weeks ago, watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead again and ordered a juicer (without telling me).

He finally fessed up to his health issues and decided to do a 15 day juice cleanse. I agreed to join him on this cleanse.

I have to say it doesn't feel natural for me not to eat something every day.

Day one was difficult because it was an emotional day. We attended a memorial service and my uncle was in ICU. Normally I'd be able to reach for a glass of wine or something to nibble on, however on that day it was only juice.

Day two was better. Beautiful day. Took a drive. Brought our juices with us to enjoy. But by evening I was very hungry and my stomach was cramping.

Day three. I nearly gave up. Foggy head, stomach cramps, cranky attitude and unbelievable hunger. What didn't help was the new recipe we tried with sweet potato, beets, carrots and apple. It looked like a blood and oatmeal smoothie. It was nasty, I could only get halfway through my portion and it made me feel sick afterwards. Stick to green juices.

Today is day four. I'm slightly less crabby, still very hungry but a little more hopeful that I will get through this.

I'm doing this to support my husband. I feel a 3 day fast would have been sufficient, however we're going way beyond that. I hope I make it to day 15.

I'd like to say that I made it the full two weeks. Unfortunately by the end of day #4, I was weak, pale, had under eye circles and was unable to even speak due to being so light headed. I introduced a small amount of protein and veggies back into my diet. My husband on the other hand cruised through the 15 days. Lost 20 pounds and brought his BP from 180/100 to 138/80. He is continuing to juice and feels great.

All the best with your juice cleanse. It really does get easier as the days go by. I have done a 30-day cleanse and I felt great. Keep us posted.

My daughter does this every 4-6 months depending on how long she does it, she is in day 9 now and planning 2 wks. she did a 21 day one and felt fantastic. Her hubby does it for a week, did do 2 but would rather eat. She finds she feels so much better.

Your energy will start kicking in very soon. Hang in there. If you get a little light headed that is normal because of the reduction in inflamation causing your blood to rush through your blood vessels much faster.
