My problem with food

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

I just read the article about another SP member's journey and it made me realize what my problem is. I cannot disconnect! My mind is racing all the time about work, the kids, the bills, the house, the bills, the kids (Did I mention the kids?). Constant battle for attention all the time! I don't know how to focus on me! I don't know how to shut off my brain! And therefore I reach for food not even thinking about it! It comforts me when I'm stressed. (And I'm stressed A LOT!!!)

This is me:

Now I just need to figure out how to RELAX and slow my racing thoughts. How do I concentrate on me when I have 50 million other things depending on me?

Bottom line: You HAVE to. Being a better mom, wife, employee or anything else means being a better YOU. Even if it's just 10 minutes a day, do something for YOU..listen to music, read a book, watch TV..whatever it is that makes you smile schedule a time for it every day. No exceptions.

Me? I can't be sad after watching the Big Bang Theory. But I would suggest something healthy like yoga emoticon But whatever works!

Start by taking a few deep breaths! Try and relax your muscles, too! When you get tense your muscles will tighten up, which often leads to added headaches and things like that. Just start small! Maybe declare a 5 or 10 minute "rest and relaxation" breaktime for yourself in the evenings, and make sure the family and kids know that it's your personal time for you.

We have all been here. It's a mental thing, it sucks and I don't know if we ever really get over it. Just keep trying, keep getting back up and fighting, because you are worth it.

I know its not easy but maybe just slow down and try to remember that if you don't start taking care of yourself you won't be able to take care of the kids. I know as Mother's we feel we have to do it all!! Try to take a step back, delegate if you can, give yourself a little "me" time and you may be surprised. I think sometimes we are unwilling to give up the control we have by doing everything ourselves but then can be pleasantly relieved when certain things operate just as smoothly without us having complete control. Pick something small, see what happens and then maybe it will begin to get a little easier. Good luck, but if you don't take care of yourself nobody else will do it either!! emoticon emoticon
