Nugget of Truth #16

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Luke 10:38-42 NKJV Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heart His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Sometimes life becomes so busy that we begun to get caught up in the “doing” instead of the “being”. Worries and cares choke out the most important thing in our lives, which is to sit at the feet of Jesus, to hear His words of comfort and strength. Our minds become preoccupied with the happenings of life instead of focusing on the Life-giver! That's where Martha was in her service to the Lord. She had allowed the things that needed to be done for His comfort to over-ride the need to just be with Him. The Lord told Martha that in her desire to serve Him she lost the best part of their relationship: the need to be with Him, which was the antidote to her worry and trouble. Sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His word and relating to Him one on one was what Martha needed to counter the emotional feelings and thoughts that she was experiencing. Mary had learned the secret of laying aside those things that would drain her of the emotional strength that she needed to face every day. Her focus was on Jesus, not what needed to be done or the pressing matters of life.

Has your life has become preoccupied with the cares and worries that surround you? Are you concerned about what is happening in your life more than the One who can deliver you from the anxiety?

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Rest – Greek word anapauo – means to make to cease. The word describes a cessation from toil, a refreshment, an intermission.

Do you need an intermission from life this morning? Come to Jesus and tell Him all about your troubles. He will trade loads with you. His load is easy; good, pleasant, comfortable, and suitable to life. Your load is heavy and burdensome. Make the trade today!

Confession based on God's word for today: I will not worry about what is happening in my life. Instead I will give it to Jesus, spending time in His presence being refreshed as I release my burdens to Him.

Prayer for today: Father, I thank You for the trade that Jesus made for us on the cross of Calvary. Because of Him taking my sin upon His back and nailing it to that cross I can have freedom from the cares of this world. I trade my heavy burdens today for His light, easy load. I give Him my cares and in exchange for them I receive His peace, His comfort and His strength. Thank You for giving me the freedom in Christ Jesus to live above the burdens and cares of this life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Avanell, great blog. The story of Martha and Mary always bothered me because I KNEW that I was Martha but didn't know HOW to stop it. Thankfully, I did learn...but even in the world today we see so many that are Marthas.

Thank you for a lovely reading and prayer...God Bless you!

Worries, cares, burdens, we all have them to a greater or lesser level. John 13:34 reminds people to reach out to those who are hurting around them. I don't know where I have heard this in my walk, and deciding to be a Mary, but this is what I leave here today: "A shared burden is half a burden". Open up today to someone, lighten your load, or lighten another. Jesus has carried it all on His back to the cross. You cannot shock Him because as Avanell quoted, "The antidote to worry and trouble, is HIM!" Christ is the pause that refreshes.

P.S. Only SP has my screen at 25%. I helped someone a long time ago to resolve this problem. Now I have it and don't know or remember how to correct it. Please send me and email on SP if you know or have resolved this before. Thank you!
