Miserable 2 days!

Monday, April 01, 2013

Yesterday, on Easter Sunday, I couldn't eat anything but jell, broth, and apple juice in preparation for the colonoscopy. I spent all of Sunday hungry and having to drink that nasty stuff they give you, and of course in the bathroom all day and all night.
Went I got to my appointment, which they made back in January, they said they didn't get authorization for the test and I would have to re schedule! I told them, "Are you kidding! I just spent the most miserable night of my life and haven't eaten in 2 days, and now you're NOT gonna do it?" The girl said to hold on and they would check. I waited 2 hours for them to get authorization then they finally told me they could go ahead with the test.
They couldn't find a vein (that's why I have a port) so they gave 2 very painful shots in the arm. It made me a little woozy but I was not "out" by no means, and it hurt really bad, every time I hurt really bad, he said "hold on, we're almost done" which he was not!
Then to top it off, he said I wasn't cleaned out enough and I have to come back June 1st.!!!
I am NOT going back there again! I don't think they gave me the right stuff to start with, because everyone I talked to, including my daughter, said they had 4 large bottles, as in quart size or bigger to drink. What they gave me was 4 very small 8 oz bottles of very acidic stuff that gave me instant acid reflux for hours before it even started to work as a laxative.
This has been one of the most painful and miserable experiences of my life! I will NOT be going back there again!
On a more positive note, I stopped and got a baked potato and iced coffee on the way home and took a good nap! So, I hope to get back to normal tomorrow and get back to my challenge team. I wish I could keep the 4 lbs. off, but I'm sure those will come back real fast:)

emoticon I am so sorry; I had to have one years ago and I remember the night I had to do the prep. I'm glad they didn't make you go through all that a second time.

It sounds like they did not give you enough of the sedatives; when I had mine, they gave them through the IV, it sounds to me like they were not doing something right if it was causing you pain. I didn't have any pain with mine.

I'll send up a prayer that you get good results!

emoticon emoticon I'm so sad they did that to you.
    Bless you Sue.
I wouldn't go back to them either.
    Hope your week is better.

Ok I'm agreeing with a lot of folks here. I've had several (my dad died of colon cancer, so I'm cautious) and the stuff they give you to drink should work fast and not take that long. I have been semi awake for one and it was not pleasant, some doctors will knock you out, It depends on your insurance to be truthful. Seek out another doctor and if you have to pay a little more to get the better "drink" do it. And the bad news is it always tastes bad. I chew gun to disguise the flavor. Good luck.

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I hate stuff like that and I don't know if I'll ever be able to do it!

emoticon That's not how it should go. :( I'd definitely find a different place to do it next time. I've had it done several times and never any problems like that. Hope you're feeling much better today!

Sounds like a very miserable experience. Hope you are recovering. So sad it came when it did.

Yeah, that's definitely not the way it should go. I had one - got put out - and never felt a thing. And I had to drink a huge bottle of gatorade mixed with the meds beforehand, so I don't understand the small little bottles thing. emoticon

If you need to redo it, then definitely go to someone else and discuss your bad experience with them so it doesn't get repeated.

Wow Suz! That was awful. I don't blame you for not wanting to go back. Hope you have a good week recovering from your ordeal.

That is without a doubt the worst test i can think of. Had 2 so far and for 1 I somehow screwed up the stuff you take and wad also not cleaned out enough. Luckily??? They gave me an enema and all was good. I would NOT have that scope while awake!!! SO sorry the experience was so awful. Do reschedule with someone else and tell them before hand what your problems were. Hopefully the can be better prepared for you next time. Have some nice hot coffee this morning and a good breakfast and get back to doing the things you LOVE to do and enjoying your life. Have a wonderful week,

I've had an experience of the pain of this (I came to with it and they were holding me down) and the gastroenterologist said they'd give me an anaesthetic if they ever had to do another one. So I don't think you should put up with pain like that. So I do know how debilitating it can be and I'm very sorry you have had such a bad time. It will be good to see you back on the team pages again! emoticon
