Coucou, Monsieur Simmons!

Monday, April 01, 2013

When I was in France, I noticed that many people say "coucou" as a friendly greeting--an "Holla!" so to speak.

It was at Orly Airport in July of 1995. My younger son was, with a group of other foreign exchange students, waiting for their final flight home to various USA destinations, after a year studying in France. And who should be waiting but Richard Simmons? He led the group of teenagers in an impromptu workout and posed for pictures and spoke of the benefits of education.

My son, who was then terminally hip and ironic as only a punk teenager could be, was utterly charmed by Richard Simmons and only said great things about him.

I am now in the process of getting some Richard Simmons DVD's so that I, too, can sweat with Richard Simmons. It will be a family tradition!!

What a fun story! And how nice to know that fame doesn't spoil everyone - great that you have a picture of them together.
