Welcome April

Monday, April 01, 2013

Today is April 1st and I welcome the new month. It is the month on my birth and I begin it with the week off from teaching for spring break. It has been a hectic and stressful few months. I resorted to my usual coping mechanism of eating to relieve the stress, eating to soothe & comfort myself, eating for fun and eating poorly due to lack of time and exhaustion.

I have spent this first day of spring break here on Spark, reading, posting and reflecting. My 55th birthday is 22 days away. The gift I want to give myself is to be able to say I am on the way to being healthier. Everyone and everything here on Spark is pointing me in the right direction. I just have to follow the road that is laid out before me. For me, it has always been the "road less traveled".

Dee, when your spring break is over be sure to make time for yourself each day! Even small breaks in the middle of the day help greatly. If you have to wait in a line for something like the copy machine, take time to breathe deeply and think of something pleasant. Notice how good you feel.

The gift of health is the best gift you could ever give yourself. My birthday is at the end of the month too (I'll be 52) and I'm healthier (by far) than I was this time last year. I'm striving to just keep trying to be as healthy as I can be.

Keep up the good work!

I hope that you have a truly wonderful spring break! I know how much work teachers have to do outside of classroom hours, just to keep up, so I also understand how much they deserve their breaks - contrary to popular belief......

Enjoy your time off, and take this time to rejuvenate yourself! You have earned it!!!
