Progress in Steps

Monday, April 01, 2013

At the beginning of my Winter into Spring 5% challenge I blogged about my goal of increasing my steps to 10,000 / day. This has been a real challenge for me. Before I even started, there were days that I barely got in 500 steps.

I don't run, because I had my knees replaced, but I can walk, and I can step in place.
I started by doing 5000 steps a day.
I am now this week up to 7500 steps a day.
I think there was only one day that I did not make it during my week of 6000 steps, I only made it to 3300 one of the days. But my average for the week was always over the amount for the week.

This is how I have accomplished it.
Stepping in place for 5 mins at a time.
Attending curves and doing steps on the recovery boards.
walking around the stores I am in further than I have to.
The weather hasn't always been good for walking, but I have taken a few walks outsside.
Parking my car further than I have to to go into the store.
Walking the furthest distance in my home to get to another room where I need to.
And at the end of the day walking in figure 8's around the Dining room and the entry way until I make up what I need.

It has been a challenge. My feet have been cramping. (I soak them in warm water with Epsom salts). My knees are feeling better. My calves have gotten sore. And some nights I have to walk a bit in order to get into bed.

Gotta go, grandbaby is waking from her nap. But you get the idea. Cheer me on. I still have 5 weeks to go to reach 10,000 by adding 5000 a day / week.

Wow you have been walking off more than I do.. emoticon

because of my hearing issues , I go slow when I have balance issues.. I walk a block or many times up the stairs in my house ( been a snowy winter) now the weather is little nicer when I can walk a bit more or little longer emoticon emoticon emoticon
