Ok, so over the last few weeks I completely cut out chips (with the exception of occasional tortillas) which for me was a HUGE deal. I've been a chip fanatic for as long as I can remember. In fact there are many pics from my childhood showing me munching down in front of the t.v. In the last 10 years my family has discovered a large history of heart disease with the women in our family, which increases my risk. I decided I want to try to watch my sodium intake and had an epiphany while munching on a bag of ruffles that the chips had to go for good. I won't lie...it's been hard! I had cravings that lasted for days. It was my normal behaviour to snack on chips while I was bored, watching t.v. And especially while my son napped. I've been successful for just over 2 weeks so far and it is getting easier. Now, around Easter the ugly chocolate monster reared his head and I realized I need to go round 2 and clear chocolate from my diet as well. Today is day 1 . Hopefully it won't be as big a struggle but only one way to find out!

  I wish I could portion things like that out and I tried that first but I found my cravings were a 100x worse! There aren't many things I can completely cut out because I don't want to feel deprived. I could never say cut out bread, for example. I think chicolate will be easier than the chips because until I had my son I actually didnt crave it. After he was born I developed the sweet tooth, it was a bit strange.

    I admire your determination. I however, find I am like Babysox in that I have to be able to have the things I crave in moderation or i will overindulge. For example, I allowed myself one medium bad of M&M's for Easter. I bought them on saturday and am finishing the back today. I have been portioning them out throughout the weekend. Also, I am pleased to discover that as I am nearing the end of the bag, I am not really wanting them any more :P

    Good luck. For me, moderation is key because if I eliminate something I end up craving it and then over indulging in it.

    I was the same way with chips so i tried substituting peanuts, cashews, crackers, lite popcorn anything that was salty and crunchy. It works pretty well but only if i portion it out first, otherwise i would eat the whole thing. It's the same way with chocolate, i will buy a bar of chocolate and make it last the whole day maybe even two. Just take nibbles here and there. Good luck and keep up the good work
