What to Display on the Ticker?

Monday, April 01, 2013

If you've been following my blogs you know that I'm working with a running coach following a training plan designed to enable me to run faster. The goal is to beat my 5K time for the Mayfaire 5K on the evening of May 11th. It's almost always hot and the course is designed to be as hilly as can be in this relatively flat central Florida area. My previous time for this race was 29:55 (my PR for a 5K -- a really flat one -- is 28:28). I ran my fastest mile ever this last week. Just maybe I can achieve this goal!

So I have some running goals. But far more important to me is my maintenance goal. I have maintained an 80 pound weight loss (212 - 132 pounds) for over 4 years now. Good, but I want to maintain a weight of 126, an 86 pound weight loss. I have hit 126 a few times, but usually fluctuate up from there pretty quickly. Today I weighed 126.6. I'm not 100% certain that 126 really is a maintainable weight for me, but I think the only way to find out is to try. With that in mind, I changed my ticker today on my SparkPage. I was a little reluctant to do it. I loved that ticker showing 210 weeks of maintaining that 80 pound loss, a constant positive! But I would love it even more if I could consistently show me maintaining my goal weight of 126. So today it shows me .6 over goal. Not bad. Not bad. And maybe I can make it say exactly what I want -- and without affecting my athletic performance! Time will tell.

Me too, I was wondering, if I'm maintaining, could I do it at a lower weight?
Congrats for your success so far!
What is your strategy to improve your speed?

Marsha, you have accomplished many great things, emoticon

I'm sure you'll figure out if 126 even is the best place for you or not. CONGRATULATIONS on the run time. Wow! You do so well with the races.

Change the ticker to make it work for you! Your loss is impressive and has no doubt inspired others but you can tell your story through your page, blogs, etc. The ticker is there to help you so if that works for you, keep it at maintenance. You can always change it back! emoticon

That is a dilemma to be sure. It will be really motivating for you to try hold that precious 126 with the new ticker, but certainly, the 80 lb loss for 4 years will never be forgotten! I hope that your training and the lower weight will be compatible for you! You are going to rock that 5K!! Your determination can't be beat!

I am so proud of you and trying to find your "real" comfort zone. I have been thinking about is for the past 6 months. It has been so hard to lose the holiday weight. I still do not regret eating what I ate, but next year I WILL do better.

Keep up the awesome work. I know it will pay off.

The ticker may be the motivational tool you need to get to your goal. Only you know what motivates you most.

You've done well with maintenance and the running goals. You can reach this new weight goal, and then decide whether you want to keep your weight there or whether something else will become the new priority for you. Enjoy the process!

I'm sure you are going to do wonderful with your 5k timing. You have been so dedicated and persistent. Kudos to you for all the hard work you have done and being able to maintain where you are for as long as you have. As far as the .6 lbs? I know you want to prove it to yourself but I think you have succeeded regardless. Keep on rocking it my friend.
