We went to the Coastal Maine Botanical gardens to see flowers !!

Sunday, March 31, 2013

It barely happened the snow has mostly gone but the earth is still frozen. The frog pond is still frozen and it looked like it will be a couple of weeks till we see the tulips for Mothers day if we are lucky.

The only flowers DH and I saw were Snow drops but no snow. There were some Alpine crocus looking very weak and the stems are still yellow.

We drove there and back after lunch. We did do a nice walk but it was disappointing to see no flowers. We chatted all the way and looked at various new areas that have been uprooted for something to be replaced. That is the beauty of this entire place. It was heavily wooded and now it has mostly decorative kinds of trees it is definitely a show place. No longer is it only a representation of Maine.

They are catering to the tourist and I fear that the prices for the dinners and the courses they give will soon be too expensive for most of the Mainers. That really saddens me. I am having a bit of a hard time pondering if DH and I can afford it much longer.
Sadly I think I will be asking about the price structures and raising the subject of the locals who may not be unable to afford the fees.

I need to question how the young parents can afford to take their children in there. I have to ask these things. I need to know it has to be accessible to everyone not just the wealthy tourists.

I hope to find that they have special considerations for those people. I am always promoting the place to everyone but I must learn more about the escalating prices.

We joined almost at the beginning and we had a family membership. Now it is limited to only grand kids our adult parents of those children we have to pay full price for.

DH and I had a nice walk and we went home to a nice dinner of Salmon and vegetables. I baked DH muffins and had a long phone call from one of our sons.

He is trying to plan to come to our 50th anniversary in August. We have a very small family here so our family reunion might happen. I really hope so.
I am trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Our August Anniversary is in prime time for hotels and Air fares so I am just beginning to look at what will be involved to make it happen.
We enjoyed our day, Pat in Maine.

I live in a touristy place too Pat...& when it's in season here in SW Florida, the prices just sky rocket out of sight! Food prices & eating out becomes so expensive, it's ridiculous! I don't know how the young people & retirees cope ...it's sad!

How exciting that you're 50th is approaching! Wonderful!!!

The crocus here are almost done. The periwinkle, hyacinths, grape hyacinths, and daffodils are blooming.

Sounds like a fun day. So great that you are thinking of the locals. It is sad to see areas only cater to tourist and forget the people living in the area.

Disneyland gives a discount if you show you live in the area. Maybe the exhibit could do that for you?

It sounds like you had a good day with your walks anyway's. It is too bad that the prices are going up so high so that low income families can not go in. It is too bad that they are catering to the tourists. I hope that you can get some answers to your questions.

I am glad that you had a nice long chat with your son. I really hope that you will be able to have your family with you for your 50th Anniversary. I know that you would love that very much.

I hope that you have a great day today.

Love Dot

Well, sounds like it was a wonderful day all-in-all. Hope the restaurant can accomodate locals. I live in a touristy town too and do not eat in our downtown area for many reasons, but the main one is prohibitive prices.

I pray that a reunion can nappen to celebrate your 50th anniversary. How wonderful would that be!

HUGS

Glad to hear you had a nice Easter. It is sad how prices seem to be going up most places. I do understand what you are saying about the place you went too. I had a nice Easter with Beth's sister and her family.

Pat, like your friend said, restaurants are having to charge more for tourists because it's become very costly to keep a restaurant open. I agree that they should have a day or two accommodating the locals. I hope they're inspired to do that from your questions.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your anniversary reunion. emoticon

Pat, some of the places I have lived in catered to the tourist but had special days and/or prices for the locals. Hope yours will too. When in August? I'm sure you have told me but my mind does not retain information. Ours is the 4th. HUGS, Terry
