Wow, I have been a terrible sparker in the last few months. I miss my sparkfriends and I hope to find more. I am back.
I spent most of the fall and winter not taking care of myself and making other things a bigger priority than my health and my health suffered. I found myself on a committee for the school district regarding the closure of one school and the expansion of another school. It was incredibly stressful. I was on the committee as parent of the district, but since I am also an employee of the district, there was great conflict for me. I was so stressed out. I was attending 10 hours of meetings a week for 3 months in addition to working and being a mother and wife. Plus, meetings were unbelievably ugly in nature.
By December 1st, I saw a new OB to have a cervical polyp removed and my blood pressure at the appointment was 130/98!!!!! I was shocked. I needed my birth control pill that I use to control migraines refilled and she was concerned because my pressure was so high. She agreed to give me a different brand/lower strength, but for only 3 months and I had to go back to my primary doctor for more. I needed to get my pressure down now!!!
I spent 3 months working on it. I finished the committee work (it went no where any ways) in the middle of December. I got my new orthodics for my feet in January after having the foot surgery last summer. So, now I could exercise a bit more. I told my hubby that we could not eat out like we had been and I watched my salt like a hawk. I should have been on sparkpeople to help with it but I felt that I didn't have the time to do everything, so I cut out my computer time at home. I have tracked my BP daily and charted it.
I have improved. My appointment on March 11th had my BP down to 126/84. She was very pleased and we made the same deal as before. I got 3 more months of my medicine and I have to go back in 3 months to check my progress.
Today, my BP was 118/73. WooHoo!!!!!
I have increased my cardio exercise, but need to get back to the strength training. I have sacrificed all house work in the last 3 months to concentrate on lowering my BP. I have even found a way to cook zucchini without frying it and I will eat it! (This is a miracle.)
I interviewed last week for a new position at work that will have me out of my chair more (I hate my sit down job as a secretary). I applied to be the bookstore manager at the high school that I work at. I really want this position. It is a bit more money (working for the district is terrible pay, but the hours work great for my kids' schedules) and there are a lot of things about the job that fits my personality. Over 50 people from within the district applied and they interviewed 10 of us last Monday and Tuesday. I hope to know this week. It would be good for me.
I have some new goals for myself this next month (April). I wear a pedometer everyday and track my steps. By the end of today, I will have around 265,000 steps for the month of March (February was 218,000 steps). My goal for April is to have 300,000 steps (average of 10,000 a day). I also set a goal to strength train twice a week and track my food (all meals) 5 days a week.
I hope you all help keep my honest with my goals. I plan to post updates even it is just for myself.
It feels good to be back.
