Improving outlook and social skills...

Sunday, March 31, 2013

Yesterday I was invited to a last-minute get together for a friend of friend's birthday party. I managed to complete most of my tasks yesterday, so decided I should head out and mingle. I got there around 10 pm but stayed A LOT longer than intended. I finally left at 3 am but meant to leave after about 2 or 3 hours...

I did, though, get a chance to meet new friends and exchanged phone numbers with three of the party guests who I talked to last time this same group met up. All three of women I exchanged numbers with are rather active in the salsa and other social venues, so I look forward to more outings. Unfortunately, I wasn't asked (nor asked on my own) the numbers of any of the male party goers. I don't know if it's a lack of interest on their part and/or their younger ages (think some are still college students or fresh out of college), but didn't click on a romantic interest level with any of them. However, this time I made it a point to mingle amongst all the guests, therefore I did get a chance to talk to all them. This is opposed to last time in which I spent the majority of the party talking with only a minority of the guests.

The same group of people are going to a potluck dinner at 6 pm today, so I hope to attend as well. THIS time I'm only staying for 3 hours maximum. I'd rather socialize more often at shorter periods of time, opposed to infrequently for a very long chunk of time. And I'm also trying to make efforts to expand those social circles. For instance, I already noted that the gentlemen who are associated with my friend's crowd don't show much interest in me, but there are more fish in the sea! Just need to keep plugging away :) Ideally I'd like to meet men that share similar interests (e.g., dancing, badminton, dog parks, etc.) so that I can kill two birds with one stone. I guess I should also restart my online dating ventures, but I find they can be a time suck. Would rather have fun and happen to meet at the same time available, interested man opposed to going on an hour-long coffee date and never getting a call back...

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter! When I came home late last night I had consumed 200 calories of See's Candy chocolates that were gifted to me, so I'll let that be my sweet indulgence for the day. I'd rather save up my calories for savory foods at the potluck. The host, E., is making tilapia. I love, love seafood!

Sounds like you had a great Easter! I'm glad that you're putting yourself out there and meeting new people! And don't give up with the online dating, that's where I met my Pete. I just had to go through some duds to meet him; but that happens in real life as well.
