The past year...

Whoa, wait.. that sharp drop from planned weight loss, vs. my actual rise in weight in just 2013:

These caused me to take a step back and look at the big picture again. From my start on Sparkpeople:

I realized that my weight is only part of the picture.. There was way more going on:

I joined SparkPeople in Jan 2008. I resisted and wasn't ready to fully dive in and use all of the tools and community until March, when I had lost 20 pounds just by walking 5 minutes a day and stretching the 1st month, 10 minutes, stretching, and more veggies each day the 2nd month. I started tracking my food, tracking my fitness and paying attention to those Spark emails because it turns out that losing weight was easier than I ever thought it would be.

This year was the first time that I really, seriously, stopped exercising and eating nutritious food more often than not. I still hiked or pushed myself on the weekends. But unlike fixing up your house on the weekends, preventing weight gain, or better--building a fit body takes daily monitoring and effort. It's more like building a house. If you only made progress for a couple of hours each weekend, the elements and nature including vermin, would take over and cover more ground than you could clean up.

That orange line is a tiny blip in the grand scheme of this journey, and in my lifetime. But it marks the need for change. And today, with the spirit of renewal for this season and resurrection on this holiday, I will heed the signs and create my own.
