HM #3 for no reason

I'e read many articles that say you need to respect the distance. Others that say you need a good reason to run 13 miles--because you will need to dig deep--but I'm not sure I do...

My first HM was to challenge/test myself, my second was to hit a time goal with my long-distance training partner. This one had no special meaning when I signed up, but upon reflection it's less about ME and more about celebrating an event with my running/training group.

The course makes it unlikely for a PR, since it's all about the scenery and views. I am fit (having run my last HM four weeks ago) but haven't done much specific training for this race (i have kept running). In a few weeks, I'll trade my weekend LSD's for windsurf time on the water. Maybe this is my way to close out a satisfying and successful winter season of running, a "victory lap" of sorts. I'm not sure WHAT this race is about, but that feels okay too.

Running a beautiful course in the springtime with friends should be reason enough, right? Will that carry me through, or will such a nebulous purpose leave me without the necessary mental fortitude for those tough middle miles? I'm about to find out!

...then again, there's talk in the group of a nice run in early May. Stay tuned!
