My Easter hike in Normandy

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Hello dear Sparkfriends,

Happy Easter!!! I am back from my Easter hike... It was cold! And grey! But it was lovely...

I drove to Lyons-la-Forêt, a little town in Normandy I have already mentioned a couple of times in previous blogs, as I like taking friends there. There are some nice little shops!

Shortly after I left Lyons-la-Forêt, walking all the way up the little path by the post office towards the woods, I saw the first primroses of my hike. It felt so good!

After Croix-Mesnil's castle...

... I entered the woods. And there, suddenly, it felt completely like winter. But it was a gorgeous forest. The area is well known for its impressive beeches.

They had been cutting trees (maybe you can see a truck with lots of trunks in the background on my previous picture?). It didn't smell of cut trees though, I guess it was too cold!

I played with my camera a bit to take pictures of a different format. When I saw this feather, it reminded me that the hunting season ended one month ago, and that is truly good news. I am not scared anymore, and not in danger of becoming deaf either!

When I left the woods, I crossed the hamlet of Villaine.

It was very pretty, very typically Normand, with more primroses by the road side...

There were several orchards. It will be so pretty here in a few weeks, with all the apple and pear trees in bloom!

Then I walked on a path with pastures on both sides, and the sound of the nearby river...

There were lots of wild flowers of all kinds!

As I passed by the first house of Le Bout de Bas, I was glad they had left their bike outside! :)

A few minutes and a beautiful daffodils' garden later...

I was back in nearby Lyons-la-Forêt, and enjoyed looking at its houses very much!

I hope you enjoyed sharing my hike today! How was your Easter Sunday? I hope it was as lovely as mine, but a little sunnier! :)

Thank you for another lovely blog, Claire. The primroses and the slightly crooked houses are lovely. I like the gate with it's peeling paint.

I've never been to Normandy, but apparently that's where my ancestors on my father's side came from. My birth name was Mott, and the English Mott's were originally supposed to be French Motte's, who came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066 and fought in the Battle of Hastings (which I have visited).

I could feel the wintry difference in the pictures from the forested areas, compared to the bright spring-like feeling of the village pictures. Love the pink chair.

Glad you had a happy Easter week-end; I'm hoping to write about mine later in the day.

We went walking yesterday. It was cold and snowy, but I went anyway. Sometimes you have to push your way through the snow to get the joy.

I love primroses - so pretty!

I'm glad your Easter hike was so beautiful Claire! Even if the sun didn't come to join you. My favorite picture is the one with the truck in the background. Beeches can be so tall and beautiful that they make a forest look very impressive.
I hope your next hike is a real Spring one with everything in full bloom!

Thank you Claire for sharing the beautiful photos from your Easter hike. I LOVED seeing the primroses! Today I drove from California, which had warm weather and profusion of flowers, to my home in Oregon -- where spring won't arrive for another few weeks. But the weather is warmer, and the days are longer. Normandy is lovely, and I am so glad you shared your hike.

Beautiful pictures as always! You are a artist with your camera. I'm so glad you share your hikes with us. They cheer me up and brighten my day! I went to Easter service last night. I worked today, my floor was still busy even on Easter. I had a good day and worked with some of my favorite co workers but it was nice to get home. 2 of my teen daughters organized a Easter egg hunt for some of the neighborhood children. My girls love children! Cassie my youngest also hunted for candy and Easter eggs! emoticon

Primroses are so special to me i always had the yellow English primroses in my Gran's garden, My favourite colours are purple and yellow so your picture is perfect.

We walked the Botanical garden and WE SAW tiny Crocii and GIANT SNOW DROPS and that was all.
We did have a nice walk the gates were left open for people to walk but all of the buildings were still closed. We are at least 2 to 3 weeks before Tulips and Rhododendrons will bloom. ((((HUGS)))))) Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon I am taking a wildflower identification course it has been years since I studied Botany. Pat.

I have never seen a wild primrose. How pretty. I love the half circle gate...that would be so pretty as an entrance to any garden.
Easter was a busy ..wonderful here. We went to 3 different churches for worship....sang in a community choir at the first...but I had to get up before 4am to make it by 6 and have my voice awake enough to sing. Second was my home church and the final was my DDs church where the children gave a presentation and I got to see my GS. He's in the 'I want my mommy' stage and cracks me up. DD does not believe in passing him around during service so while sitting on her lap, he would pat me on my shoulder and wait for me to look around...then give me a big smile. His basket was bigger than he was and since we're trying to teach him healthy choices, I gave him fruit and toys rather than candy.
Please keep posting your walks, they are such a gift. Thank you!
Be blessed and keep Sparkin'!!

Love your pictures of Normandy!! I adore the pictures of the flowers and the house with the bicycle parked next to the tree! Glad your weather cooperated and that your hike went well. We had a nice church service followed by a large family dinner today... a lot of family stories and laughter. My dad told a lot of stories that made no sense to anyone but him...his words are so garbled with the Alzheimers...but we laughed anyway.

Lovely as usual, love the wild violets. Your pictures of the house and flowers are so beautiful, and your picture of the woods captured the wintry atmosphere you described.
I had a beautiful day, but no walk-I went to church at 6AM, Mass was lovely and I was surrounded by my loving community. Back home I took a little nap before Erik got up, then we drove to my eldest son's house to help make and have dinner with some of the family.
We had sun, rain, clouds, warm and cool all in a day.
Thanks for the hike through part of Normandie.
