My Easter hike in Normandy

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Hello dear Sparkfriends,

Happy Easter!!! I am back from my Easter hike... It was cold! And grey! But it was lovely...

I drove to Lyons-la-ForÍt, a little town in Normandy I have already mentioned a couple of times in previous blogs, as I like taking friends there. There are some nice little shops!

Shortly after I left Lyons-la-ForÍt, walking all the way up the little path by the post office towards the woods, I saw the first primroses of my hike. It felt so good!

After Croix-Mesnilís castle...

... I entered the woods. And there, suddenly, it felt completely like winter. But it was a gorgeous forest. The area is well known for its impressive beeches.

They had been cutting trees (maybe you can see a truck with lots of trunks in the background on my previous picture?). It didnít smell of cut trees though, I guess it was too cold!

I played with my camera a bit to take pictures of a different format. When I saw this feather, it reminded me that the hunting season ended one month ago, and that is truly good news. I am not scared anymore, and not in danger of becoming deaf either!

When I left the woods, I crossed the hamlet of Villaine.

It was very pretty, very typically Normand, with more primroses by the road side...

There were several orchards. It will be so pretty here in a few weeks, with all the apple and pear trees in bloom!

Then I walked on a path with pastures on both sides, and the sound of the nearby river...

There were lots of wild flowers of all kinds!

As I passed by the first house of Le Bout de Bas, I was glad they had left their bike outside! :)

A few minutes and a beautiful daffodils' garden later...

I was back in nearby Lyons-la-ForÍt, and enjoyed looking at its houses very much!

I hope you enjoyed sharing my hike today! How was your Easter Sunday? I hope it was as lovely as mine, but a little sunnier! :)

    Dear Claire,
Thank you for sharing your hike with us, I loved all the beautiful pictures! When I saw the flower shop it reminded me of Christmas time when you bought the cyclamen! How is that plant doing? If you pull of the dangling leaves and the spent blossom stems it will keep flowering. I also read that the seed pods should be removed from the potted versions. My oldest cyclamen is restarting it's bloom cycle, the old blossoms are gone and new ones are forming, I have pulled 25% of it's old leaves and new leaves have come to replace them.

I like the pictures of a path through the woods, down a slope and up a slope, and along the bank. The houses are also very interesting, I would love to see a vista like that sometime!

Now I get to read your newest blog!!
Hope your Monday is wonderful
Love from Minnesota.
Annette

Thank you Claire, for the lovely pictures of the flowers. Mom & I love primrose. I loved to see the photos of Normandy reminds me that is where my Dad was in that country during the war years. I loved the photo of the bicycle parked along the tree side , with the green grass, building & the curved dirt road everything in the photo blends in so beautifully. Claire you had mentioned the town looked so Normand, what do you mean? We had a beautiful sunny day today the air was crispy with the wind blowing about a little bit.Have a lovely week

So nice to see your flowers blooming. None out here yet, it is too cold. Still snow in the woods. I ordered some primroses today from a mail order company. Hope they come soon. Don't imagine they will bloom this year, but hope so for next spring.

Thank you for sharing your walk. Even though you had a grey day you are much further along in Spring than we are. We are still covered in snow with bits of earth peeking out. I am looking forward to some flowers in the next month. I enjoyed your walk.

So lovely! I'm looking forward to my first trip to France in October. We'll be on a riverboat from Paris to Normandy and then I'll do the post trip to Mont St. Michel. I'm really looking forward to the post trip. The pictures I've seen are inviting! I believe it's the omelets I'm supposed to try in Mont St. Michel, but I'm not sure. I'll have to look that up so I don't miss out on a gastronomical treat!

What a beautiful spring day you had. The flowers are lovely. I love hydrangeas. I can't wait to start planting flowers for my summer garden. Once we get past April 15, then we're past the danger of frost. Then I can plant colorful flowers in my front garden that will last through the summer. The pansies and violas won't make it to June because of the heat.

We had a terrific Easter, with warmer weather (finally) and family over for dinner. I am so fortunate to have a daughter-in-law who is wonderful. It's fun to spend time with my son and his wife and, of course, my grandson.
