Kayaking and Happy Easter

Sunday, March 31, 2013

So, I tried kayaking yesterday with a group I found on meetup. I do not own a kayak, but the organizer rented kayaks and towed them down there for us. This is the third time I have kayaked but the first two were sort of "special occasion" kayak events i.e. I went sea kayaking once as part of an Alaskan cruise, and I did a "fireworks trip" tour kayak on the Chicago river (which is mad fun, by the way, if you ever find yourself in Chicago, you should DO IT, it's crazy).

ANYWAY, so the kayak trip was great. I liked it a lot more than canoeing because you are closer to the water and the boat is more maneuverable. Also there was a certain amount of trash in the river and I have to admit I really enjoyed swooping by it and picking it out. And, it occurred to me that it would be a really great hobby to have in terms of going around to state parks and different rivers and having sort of mini-adventures - just another good reason to get out and about - with the added bonus of being near the water.

Plus, the 2 hours of activity really racked up the SparkPoints. LOL!

Anyway, happy Easter to everyone and I hope you had a great weekend. Spring is really here now and I am so excited! There will be so much fun stuff to get out and do! Yay!

Happy Easter! Kayaking is some fun stuff, for sure. I think we have a local group that periodically does river clean-up accessing hard to get to places along the riverfront with kayaks.

I've done white-water rafting and piloted "rubber ducks" as well. I really loved the experience. There's much less coasting when you're the only paddler, though!

Have a super Easter weekend!!
