March recap

Sunday, March 31, 2013

A roller coaster month. Finished my training and certification stuff for work. Waiting on the official "go" word. It's getting frustrating knowing each week that passes means I'm that much more behind.

I finally went to see my primary doc about my potassium levels being so low and he changed my bp meds to a different generic one with added potassium and took off the diuretic. So, I've spent the last week with a headache that wouldn't go away until yesterday I finally felt normal again. The potassium made an immediate impact. I had muscle energy, and felt so good. I could walk the stairs at work without a second thought and not have my thighs killing me.

I haven't weighed since the beginning of March and will wait until my body gets adjusted to the new meds. This has been a month of "hanging on" until life settles into the new normal. I took a vacation from things for a few weeks and found that I was eating everything I could which told me I wasn't getting the right nutrients. I've been concentrating on just eating clean and making sure I take a multi-vitamin.

The weather has taken the turn from winter to spring. Last weekend we had over a foot of snow in one day. It's almost all gone now. I'm looking forward to lots more time outside moving around and having fun. Soon it will be hot and humid and river time.

We found a huge stack of granite counter top slabs outside the granite place on our way to work leaning against the dumpster. Hubby asked the men there if it was for taking and they said you will probably have to take a sledgehammer to it all to move it, but we could have it. So, we took 3 trips and moved the pieces we could and broke down the ones that were too big (we're talking 5-600 pounds). I am using the pieces in both the front by the house and in the back patio. We have tons (literally) of river rocks we've surrounded the house in spots and are mixing in the polished granite. It's beautiful.

So, today is moving out the last load from the truck into the yard and patio. We'll put down landscape fabric under them in another week or so and position them in their final spots. Then we'll fill in with the river rocks in between the pieces.

I planted my canna bulbs and will set up the spinach beds this week to plant. I've got the sweet potato's in water for slips to plant in May. Can't wait for fresh veggies. We'll put in runner beans and giant sunflowers plus some tomatoes and peppers. I'll do some squash in the corners of the yard on trellises. I've got baby sage plants I started last year that will go in the ground soon. I'll plant garlic and shallot sets soon too. Gotta keep my winter and summer squash divided, one in the front yard and one in the back yard. Lots of veggies. I'm praying for rain this year. Last year it was so dry we almost lost our whole yard - trees and all. We watered every single day and it still was as dry as a desert.

I'm looking forward to a productive and active month. Can't wait for the long park walks with Dixie. And saying goodbye to scenes like this.

What a great deal on the granite slabs. I know it will look beautiful around you house. All our snow is melted also. WOOHOO!. After this little cold snap we should have some better weather. I'm glad your getting a balance on your meds. My Doc said I didn't need potassium with my bp meds and still has me on a diuretic. Good luck with your change of meds.

What a find with the granite! How in the world did you haul it? I would count that as strength training! Totally! Will you post a picture of the walkway when you are done? I bet it will be lovely!
Here's to hoping your meds and health even out.

We don't get many scenes like the one above, but I hear you anyway. I am ready for neutral weather pattern. No need for heat. No need for AC. It doesn't last long here...maybe a few weeks if your lucky. And it is still a roller coaster.
