RICH IN GOD
There are so many things in this life we can have. Some of us spend all of our lives doing what we need to get them. We plan, save and talk about these things until we get them. Sometimes the desire to have more consumes us and it is all we think about. The more we have, the more we want. Even though they are all different and give us different pleasures, they are still all the same. They are only temporary. All the money and all the things in the world can’t give us what God can. We need to strive for godliness and contentment so we can be rich in God rather than chasing after the things of the world.
1 Timothy 6:6 “Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know that true godliness and contentment is the greatest wealth we need. Help us today to stop putting our time, talents and treasures into the things of the world. Help us today to stop focusing on money and things. These temporary things only give us temporary satisfaction and just tempt us to want more when all we need is You. Cleanse us today so that we are content with You and we no longer desire the things of the world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Being content about what we have can only be done when we are obedient to God.
What makes us different from those who are worldly is that we are okay not having earthly things.
Temptation can cause us to want more and move us away from what God wants us to do.
Staying away from the things that create a desire in us to want more worldly things is a wise move to being more godly and content with what we have.
Ecclesiastes 1:8 “Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content.” (NLT)
