First of all, I cannot believe what I did! DD was not sure she'd be able to get back to the main highway when they left, so I offered to provide an escort to the main road, only about 5 miles away from our house. Since it was such a beautiful day (first day in the 70's) I decided I'd take the motorcycle out for a spin and do some errands.
Somehow, my normal routine of suiting up and mounting the bike was disrupted. I was half a mile down the road before I realized that I was NOT wearing my prescription glasses. I ALWAYS take off my glasses, lay them down on the passenger seat, put on my helmet, adjust the helmet strap, put glasses back on, mount the bike, etc.
Well, I'll make a really long story short and say I finally found them - or what was left of them. They'd been run over. Both lenses had popped out and the frames were pointing North, South, East AND West.
I placed everything in a body bag and made a beeline to the eye glass shop. The technician performed some major surgery and about 45 minutes later, presented me with a reasonable reconstruction of the crunched pieces. Amazingly, despite some minor scratches on the lenses, and some major tweaking in the alignment of the frames, they're not too bad. At least I can see distance and read until my appointment in 2 weeks.
There's a lot to be said for staying with a good routine. Lesson Learned!
