April is Autism Awareness Month

I help solve the puzzle every day. I am an Applied Behavioral Analyst working with children who have Autism.
I am going for my MA in ABA with an Emphasis on Autism.
I will take the boards exam to become a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst.
I make Autism a part of my life every day.

In April, we LIGHT IT UP BLUE to educate, advocate, and love those who have autism, the families, and the workers who provide support for these families each and every day.

But in all realty...

Every day, for those who are affected or work in the field, is Autism Awareness Day.

Mmmm. My daughter has Asperger's and I worked, first as a summer counselor with the Pacific Association of Autistic Kid's which was... amazing... and then in the schools as an Occupational Therapist having a handful of Autistic children on my caseload. It really is a puzzle. Every single one of them unique in presentation, gifts, and abiltities. I think this year has been pheonomenal for my daughter. It is like a switch got flipped and the pieces are all coming together. Temple Grandin used to speak at our workshops in Toronto and between what she shared and my training in sensory integration I think it really helped, but it would be so amazing to to find a better way of communicating. I have so many stories and I have learned humility in this field. Happy Autism Awareness Month! I like your page decorations!
