See these shoes? See how shiny and new they are?
Well, they're not going to stay that way!
Yesterday, after much agonizing about my budget ("If I spend $100 on shoes, that's $100 I don't have for credit card bills, a car repair I'm saving for, yada yada, yada..."), I decided my health and fitness need to come first! I'd had my other shoes for 1 1/2 years, and they were killing me. Seriously, walking actually hurt the soles of my feet after about 20 mins. I deserve to not hurt while I'm getting in shape! I deserve to have shoes that feel so good that I can't wait to put them on and log some miles!
Last night I took them for a spin, walking to my mom's and the grocery store, about 4 miles, total. Ohmygosh, what a difference it makes! I mean, we all know this, but sometimes I forget that the pain and even injury that can come from bad footwear is real, and that the solid investment of shoes that feel great is absolutely worth it.
So these shoes, as I was saying, aren't going to be this shiny for long! They don't know it, but I have quite the spring and summer planned for them. We're going to walk for miles and miles, and soon we'll start going to the gym, where they'll be on the elliptical, and in the free weights section. They might even get to go to a class or two! They'll be going on day hikes in Forest Park, the Gorge, and possibly even the coast. If I have my way, these shoes are going to be absolutely filthy by Labor Day and, if all goes well, will need to be replaced, so worn out they'll be!
