It's been a long winter... even though I am a lifelong Michigander, any winter still remains a long winter for me. I have learned to embrace the winter and the snow for my own sanity. I have taken the kids out for several sledding adventures, I have learned how to snow shoe and I have even taken walks outside in the cold.
But for the past few days, I have enjoyed spring in Michigan. There's nothing like it!! Newness of life is springing forth all around me, the fresh air, the blue crystal clear skies and nature crying out for the world to enjoy her and to embrace her wonder. My body has yearned for this time to come again... I can't resist the urge to jump on my bike and go for a spin, to go on a nature hike or to take the kids to the park and try once again to conquer the monkey bar chin up (Lord help me).
Wherever you are, whatever the weather may be, I hope you are taking time to enjoy the beauty of the world around you. Sometimes, it's more difficult to find (especially when it's buried under 3-4 feet of snow, your battling illness or you are busy beyond imagination) but it really does your body good when you learn to train your mind to be content in whatever situation you find yourself in.
In the hurriedness of our lives, we are so focused on the attainment of “happiness” but I have learned that what I truly yearn for is peace and contentment. Being content is probably not seen as a lofty goal by many but for me it means to enjoy the wonder of every day life even while reaching for the next level, to delight in all that I have been blessed with, to rejoice in the small and big victories alike and to find deep down soul satisfaction. A lot of my contentment comes directly from my relationship with the Lord and remembering the price Jesus paid on the cross during this Easter season but I gotta admit this great spring weather doesn’t hurt either!! Enjoy life, embrace contentment and may your soul REJOICE in the wonder of the world around you!
