Meet the new me

Friday, March 29, 2013

So, I've spent 3 full days in bed with the flu and have done nothing but sleep (all of Wednesday, most of yesterday) listen to Miss Marple on iPlayer and watch a bit of telly (Dostana, awesome film) today. No work. No reading. No virtue. No exertion. A few thoughts here and there of the "I should" variety. Pledges of things I want to do in future, when I feel like it of course, not now.

Here's a selection:
Finish reading my novel (how hard can it be?)
Read Herodotus
Read up on Zoroastrian Philosophy
Read Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Read up on ayuvedic food theory
Cultivate a solid yoga practice
Read up on byzantine tone scales
Read up on non-violence meditation
Do my coursera homework (due on Monday and requiring attention pronto)

And now, meet the new me, who does away with the to do list that never gets around to doing itself. Forget everything i just listed. Because right now, I'm not even focussed enough to read the wiki page for thus spoke Zarathustra, let alone the book itself, and that is telling me 2 things:
- I'm not the focussed intellectual type who actually makes space for this sort of enterprise among all the readily available easy entertainment.
- If this is the type I want to be something needs to change, and everything must get much much slimmer around here, not just my waist.

This is as far as I've got for now. Bear with.

Like rules are made for breaking, To Do lists are made for ignoring. ;-)

Sounds like you are ready to figure yourself out. Just remember that it will be fine even if you turn out not to be the focused intellectual type 24 hours per day.
