No more gym & fun home workout ideas

Friday, March 29, 2013

I am a little bummed because my family may have to give up the gym.
The issue is they take the money out of a bank account (we have a separate one just for the gym & if you are one or two days late, then the bank could charge an overdraft and sometimes, there is more $ taken out then what is suppose to be taken out. We would prefer to just pay cash because then we would know how much was directly going to the gym. Anyway, two of the family members are going down to the gym to discuss it today but we may not be able to go to the gym at all anymore.

I know you don't NEED a gym to workout but I really enjoyed it and it helped keep me focused.

So..now I need some ideas from all of you. What are some fun workouts you do at home. Something you enjoy doing and look forward to?

I am not one for chair exercise because for me, it is boring and it isn't something I will keep up with. Also, no yoga or Pilates. They are simply not for me.

I have found a couple of youtube videos. Beginning taebo is one of my favorites. I wish I could find it on DVD somewhere. I only have it on VHS and only have a DVD player. I also found some beginning zumba online videos that are fun but I am listening to any ideas you may have!

I love Zumba, both the the wii and the dvds. If you keep a close eye they put it on sale all the time. I think I got mine for $39 and it has different levels of intensity dvds, zumba sticks and the zumba sticks and Sentao dvds. The exhilarate one is my favorite. You can also choose if you want instructions during the exercise or not.

Walking, Walking, Walking works really well for me. I just love it! If I were you I might also begin investing in hand weights or kettle weights... That should work to get some strength training in... It's possible this may even be something really great because you may find you enjoy the independence.

God Bless!

Thinking of you!!

Are there other gyms in your city that you could check into? Some cities even have community centers with a gym that's cheap. Also check out a local YMCA/YWCA.

As for doing at-home exercises, don't forget doing activities instead of working out. Try walking, jogging, playing basketball, jumping on a trampoline, hula hooping, etc. When it feels like play instead of work it's so much more fun!

If you want to stick with some workout videos, check out the 10 Minute Solution DVD series. They have every type of workout there is and the dvds are on the cheaper side because they don't use celebrities. You can often get them on ebay or amazon for even cheaper than in a store. The bonus of these DVDs is they have several 10 minute workouts on each dvd that you can do separately to work in throughout the day or you can put them together for a long workout - and you can set them up to play whichever of the workouts you want in any order you want them. I like that feature.

When I was able to use my legs a lot more, I used to take advantage of the FITtv channel. One day I was passing across and found a show called Shimmy. It was a bellydance workout which was not a class, but people in different environments teaching you how to do the steps. Im no dancer, but that really caught my attention and I was hooked until the company started charging for FITtv! I found some Shimmy video on You tube, and Ive dled them, but I havent started back again, my legs are not what they used to be. In any case I tell you all that to say - be open when looking for out of gym exercises, because you never know what will catch you off gaurd and spark your fancy. I rermember that first dday doing the bellydance I kept on feeling like someone was going to pop up and tell me to stop because it wasnt for me I wasnt worthy of having an exercise I liked- as if! When I realized how much fun I was having, and how much enjoyment doing that exercise brought me - it was like a little light turning on. I havent been able to find another exercise that has done that for me, but Im not done looking! Im excited for all youre about to learn/find out if the gym is no longer an option! (Please forgive any mistakes as I cant see that well today)

Have you checked out the videos on here? Also, do you have netflix?? they have tons of exercise videos. I personally am hooked on a Wii game called "My Fitness Coach" and believe me, coach Mia kicks my butt some days! ;) It incorporates the equipment you have at home - for me, a swiss ball, 10lb dumbbells, a step, and resistance bands. the program rotates between, upper, lower, core and yoga.

Hopefully, the gym problem will work itself out and you wont need the ideas except to tuck them away in your hat for future reference. :)

There are lots of Pilates videos on YouTube. I'm not sure where you are, but where I am, spring if finally here (for now anyway) so I am trying to get outside. Walking, running, yard work burns a lot of calories. Bike riding. That's all I can think of right now, hope your gym gets their act together, sounds like a pain.
