Ride of your life!!

Friday, March 29, 2013

I'm a very happy person and if my body allows then I do things I enjoy and like the spark I see in children. My mother was a "child at heart" all her life and think my sister and I take this from her. She was so healthy all her life and was a lifetime walker. She was curious like a child and was always sticking her nose in things and sometimes got herself in fixes. I find myself doing the same at times. She reminded me some of Lucy of "I love Lucy" but she was so much fun to be around. All my friends that grew up around me have commented even to this day that they loved my mom. She could be strct when needed but most of the time she had fun and wanted us to have fun. She allowed us to express our creativity no matter the mess. She was "young" until alzheimers claimed her and even then she would get out and walk (to our fear of her getting lost) but she roller skated (and she was good too) when she was in her 70's and road on the back of a grandson's motorcycle when she was in her 80's. She always had a smile and a laugh for anything and anyone. As alzheimers progressed in her, she lost her laugh and then her smile and became a shell of herself. But that was the road in life that was laid out for her. I just hope I can be as happy and laugh and smile and can be as active as she always was. Sometimes it is hard to live up to her style but I try and the older I get the more I try.

I love the thought of a woman in her 70's rolling skating, and riding a motorcycle in her 80's!
I feel younger inside but my body reminds me, through advancing arthritis, that I am indeed going on sixty. I'm hoping hip surgery will enable me to move around a bit easier than I do now. Spark helps!
Blessings to you on this journey to a healthy lifestyle.
