How I break through work-out reluctance.

Friday, March 29, 2013

In no particular order:

-Get Dressed. I have specific workout clothes. One I have gone through the trouble of wrestling on my sports bra, braiding back hair, lacing up sneakers, etc. I feel obligated to do SOMETHING.

-Reset mental motivator. Remember why I am doing this, and how proud I am that I keep doing this. Remember how much I have been loving the results!

-Log onto Spark People for inspiration.

-Drink water, stretch, start to play my workout music. Let the motivation start.

-Bargain with (hopefully trick) myself. Really don't want to today. Ok, well let's just get on the treadmill for 15 minutes, walking, not running. At least stretch the legs, get the blood flowing. This tactic often leads to a full workout once I get going. (This also works during said work out for sprints, ok, I will at least run for two minutes...maybe 3....oh let's keep going!)

-Bargain with myself (part2) If I get my workout out the the way I can spend the rest of the day/evening doing (insert somewhat lazy activity or reward here)

-Pray for strength and motivation. Remind myself that the maintaining of this body is a stewardship. (channel Jimmy Buffet in spite of myself and get song stuck in my head, "I treat my body like a temple, you treat yours like a tent")

-Tell myself how nice and warm I will be after (only works in the WINTER, I hate being cold)

-Remember how GOOD (proud) I feel every time I finish.
