Good Run

Friday, March 29, 2013

Yesterday I ran according to my training plan. After a half mile walk and an easy warm up mile run, I was to run at 9 minute per mile pace, three one-mile repeats. I made the first mile in 8:47 which is probably my fastest ever; definitely the fastest mile I ever timed. The next mile I came in at 8:59 and the mile after that it was 9:01, so I was very close to accomplishing the assignment. Then I ran an easy mile (10:45 pace) home followed by a little more walk, some stretching, and the foam roller. Think I'm making progress!

When you first decide to take up running as a sport or fitness tool, it almost seems like you can get a PR every day. That is very encouraging. Once you have established in your own mind that you are a runner and and have have trained accordingly for a while, those PRs become less frequent and harder to obtain. Running your fastest mile ever without having a race to pull you along at this point is more than just a good run. It's an outstanding achievement.

Good for you! I had to slow my pace down considerably due to piriformis injury. Hoping it'll heal soon so I can work on my speed again.
