Small Changes

So the other day I read the "Introduction" to the Spark Soluntion book that we can pre-order. (I had pre-ordered it a few weeks ago.) One of the things that really struck me was making small changes. To not make all the changes all at once. That you might be overwhelmed with all the changes and might end up quitting before really starting. It started me thinking. Maybe all the changes in my work schedule has caused me to be overwhelmed in trying to get my workout schedule together. So I've taken some small changes this week.

When I was working day shift, I only drank one cup of coffee. Since being on mid-shift/3rd shift/graveyard shift, I've been drinking around 3 cups of coffee a night. So change #1. I've cut back my coffee intake. I'm now drinking one cup of coffee. I'm drinking more water or making hot tea with no added sugar.

The bus schedule here has gotten to be unreliable. Most of the time showing up 10 - 15 minutes late. So change #2. I've been walking to work. It's only 1.5 miles on uneven ground, but I'm getting my walking in. It helps in me reaching my 10,000 step goal. I'm now on Day #2 of my streak with walking to work. The plan is to walk to and from work, but the from part might be hit or miss. To work it's around midnight. A LOT cooler here. From work it's around noon, not as cool, but we'll see how it goes. I'll at least get the walking to work in.

I've been slacking in my strength training. I like watching the videos, but watching them in the evenings kind of sucks because the internet here is MUCH slower due to everyone being on. So change #3. I've been watching a strength training video right when I get home from work. Going on day #3 of this streak.

I haven't been doing as much cardio either. That's the next change. That will be watching the cardio videos right when I get home from work. I'll pick one of the videos and watch it over and over until I get my 30 minutes. That will be next week's change. I think I've done enough small changes this week. It's all about the small changes and improving. So 3 small changes down which seem easy enough to do. Now just to keep it up, which I'm pretty sure that I can.

    I approached my lifestyle change this time around with the small steps mindset. By adding new habits gradually, I believe I'll do much better. I started everything on March 1 and basically just focused on food...tracking, choosing better, eating better portions, measuring, etc. No exercise. That comes on April 1, since I am very comfortable in how I'm handling the eating aspect.

Do as much as you can handle...your body and mind will let you know what that is...
