Walking vs Running

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Today I walked at the same place that I usually run. It was actually hard to walk the entire way and not just start running! I need to take a break because I run 6 miles tomorrow, so I forced myself to walk. I've read that walking uses different muscles, but it also uses a different type of mental muscle too! I had to force myself to walk and keep reminding myself to pay attention to my form, not lean forward into the stroller over my toes. Just relax, I would say, but my muscles said...let's go--not fast enough. I did give in a run a couple of times, but it was eye opening to see everything that I miss when I run and I'm focusing on time or just getting to the end. It also helped that it was about 40 degrees warmer than the last time I ran outside too! :) I'm going to incorporate more walking into my program because obviously I've been missing out on a lot! It's great mental training for me and it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the fresh air. Plus, it's lots easier to walk with a stroller than run with a stroller! :)

I love walking. You are right when you are concentrating on time and speed you miss alot. Sometimes it is nice to just enjoy the scenery!
